Plug-In Thermostat for an IR Panel: When Is the Infraboost TH-810 the Right Choice?
Do you have an IR panel with a mains plug and want it to switch on and off automatically according to room temperature? The Infraboost ST230 TH-810 plugs between the wall socket and the panel. Basic temperature control requires no change to the electrical wiring.
What does the TH-810 actually do?

Insert the thermostat into a suitable wall socket and plug the panel into the socket on the thermostat. Set the desired temperature on the LCD. The thermostat then switches power to the connected panel according to the temperature detected by its unit.
EA specifies a 5–30 °C setting range, ±1 °C stated accuracy, 230 V / 50 Hz supply and switching capacity up to 3600 W or 16 A with a resistive load. Frost protection is also listed.
This is a straightforward local controller. Its product page does not list WiFi control or weekly scheduling. If you need remote operation or a programmed timetable, check a model that explicitly provides it.
Three situations where a plug-in solution makes sense
Why does socket position matter more than display size?
With a plug-in design, the control unit is tied to the wall socket location. That is the practical consequence of having no separate room sensor. A socket close to a warm panel, behind a curtain, in a cold corner or near a draught may not represent the temperature where people actually sit.
Before buying, identify a socket that remains accessible and is not exposed to direct panel radiation or sunlight or hidden behind furniture. Install the panel according to its own instructions; do not position the heating panel directly below a wall socket.
Practical example: a small room and an ALU 300 W panel

Suppose a heat-loss assessment shows that an Infraboost ALU 300 W panel is adequate for a small space. EA gives approximate areas of 2 m² with poor, 3 m² with good and 4 m² with very good insulation. These are indicative figures, not a substitute for assessing the actual room.
A 300 W panel uses approximately 0.3 kWh for each hour it is actually on. If the thermostat's relay is on for a total of three hours during one day, the calculation is 0.3 kW × 3 h = 0.9 kWh. At an assumed all-in electricity price of €0.25/kWh, that is approximately €0.23 per day.
The thermostat does not reduce the panel's rated power. It controls how long power is supplied. Actual running time depends on insulation, weather, the target temperature and other heat sources.
Five checks before connecting a panel
- Control compatibility: check whether the panel returns to heating after its power supply is switched off and back on. Some panels with their own electronics may require another manual start.
- Electrical load: the connected heater must remain within the limits of the thermostat, wall socket and circuit. The stated 3600 W rating refers to a resistive load.
- Measurement position: confirm that a suitable socket is in a location representative of the room.
- Required features: decide whether local temperature adjustment is sufficient. Choose a model with explicitly listed app control or scheduling if you need those functions.
- Safe connection: plug the thermostat directly into a suitable wall socket. Avoid chained adapters, damaged sockets and improvised extension leads.
What does frost protection mean here?
EA lists frost protection for the TH-810, with a setting range starting at 5 °C. This can help maintain a low temperature in a room, provided mains power is available, the connected heater works and its output is sufficient for the actual heat loss.
A temperature reading at one socket does not establish that pipes, remote corners or neighbouring rooms have the same temperature. Do not rely on this feature as the sole protection for plumbing in an empty building. Check the premises and arrange suitable monitoring before a long absence.
Frequently asked questions
Can the TH-810 control several IR panels at once?
Its built-in socket is intended for a suitable connected appliance. Do not attach several panels through an improvised multiway adapter. For several panels or temperature zones, ask EA to check the appropriate control arrangement, total load and wiring.
Can I switch heating on remotely with the TH-810?
WiFi and an app are not listed on its product page. Choose a thermostat that explicitly supports remote operation if you need it.
Does a thermostat guarantee energy savings?
It can avoid unnecessary operation once the target temperature has been reached. A specific saving cannot be promised without knowing the room, panel and previous usage pattern.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
Suitability depends on the socket position, electrical zones, equipment protection and local conditions. An IP65 rating on a possible IR panel does not give the plug-in thermostat the same rating. Ask a qualified electrician to check a proposed connection in a damp area.
Simple control for one suitable IR panel
If an accessible socket is well positioned, your compatible panel has a mains plug, and you do not require an app or schedule, the TH-810 is a practical option for local temperature control.
