Infraboost IB5 – Relay Module for Voltage-Free NO Dry Contact
The right solution when you want to connect an Infraboost IB5-5 or IB5-8 thermostat to a heating system that requires a voltage-free contact.
The Infraboost IB5-5 and IB5-8 thermostats switch 230 V AC at their output. Many boilers, gas heating systems, burners and other heating appliances, however, require only a voltage-free contact closure at the room thermostat input.
The Infraboost IB5 relay module acts as an interface: it converts the thermostat signal into a potential-free NO contact, allowing modern IB5 thermostats to be used with heating appliances that must not receive a direct 230 V control signal.
Why do you need the IB5 relay module?
- Converts a 230 V control signal into a dry contact – the output provides a potential-free NO contact with no voltage of its own.
- Allows IB5 thermostats to work with boilers and heating systems – ideal where the appliance requires only the closing of two control contacts.
- Ideal when replacing an older 2-wire thermostat – enables integration of the IB5-5 or IB5-8 into many existing heating systems.
- Electrically isolated control contact – the heating appliance does not receive the thermostat's 230 V output at its control input.
- Wide range of applications – suitable for many gas boilers, heating boilers, burners, pumps and controllers that use an NO dry contact.
- Keep all the benefits of a modern thermostat – programming, TOUCH control or WiFi functions can still be used even with a heating system that requires a traditional voltage-free contact.
When is the IB5 relay module required?
The module is mainly required when the heating appliance has a room thermostat input that expects only the closing of two wires or a potential-free contact.
- Replacing an older 2-wire room thermostat – common with central heating systems and gas boilers.
- The boiler requires a COM/NO contact – without any external voltage being supplied to the control input.
- You want to use an IB5-5 or IB5-8 with an appliance that does not support direct 230 V thermostat control.
- The heating system uses a voltage-free thermostat input – the module provides the required electrical separation.
If your boiler or heating system uses thermostat terminals marked COM / NO, RT, TA, ROOM THERMOSTAT or similar, check the manufacturer's documentation to confirm whether the input is voltage-free.
How does the IB5 relay module work?
When heating is required, the Infraboost IB5-5 or IB5-8 thermostat switches 230 V AC at its output. The relay module uses this signal to activate its internal relay.
On the other side of the relay is an electrically separate NO – Normally Open contact. When the thermostat calls for heat, this contact closes.
- connect the IB5 thermostat output to the relay module input,
- connect the boiler or heating appliance control input to the potential-free output of the relay module,
- when the thermostat calls for heat, the NO contact closes,
- when the desired temperature is reached, the contact opens again.
The heating appliance therefore receives only a simple ON / OFF command through the dry contact, while the thermostat continues to handle all temperature regulation.
Ideal when upgrading an older room thermostat
In many older central heating systems, only two control wires are connected to the room thermostat. A traditional mechanical thermostat simply closes these two wires when heating is required.
If you want to upgrade such a system with a modern Infraboost IB5-5 or WiFi IB5-8 thermostat, you need an interface that converts its 230 V output into the same type of voltage-free contact.
This is exactly what the Infraboost IB5 relay module does – it allows modern thermostat control to be added without replacing the entire heating control system, provided the installation is electrically compatible.
Compatible with Infraboost IB5 thermostats
- Infraboost IB5-5 – programmable wired thermostat with touch control.
- Infraboost IB5-8 – WiFi programmable thermostat with Tuya app control.
The relay module is intended primarily for installations where one of these thermostats needs to be connected to an appliance that requires a voltage-free NO contact.

Connect a modern Infraboost thermostat to a dry-contact heating system
If your boiler or heating appliance requires a voltage-free NO contact, the Infraboost IB5 relay module provides the correct interface for use with the IB5-5 or IB5-8 thermostat.
This allows you to keep your existing heating system while upgrading to modern temperature control, programming or WiFi features offered by the selected Infraboost thermostat.
Add the Infraboost IB5 relay module whenever your system requires a potential-free NO contact and provide the correct interface between the thermostat and the heating appliance.
