XTAR L4 Smart 4-Slot Charger for AA/AAA 1.5V Li-ion and 1.2V NiMH Batteries
A compact four-channel charger for rechargeable AA and AAA batteries - one practical device for 1.5V Li-ion and 1.2V NiMH cells, including when you want to charge both chemistries at the same time.
The XTAR L4 automatically detects a compatible inserted battery and selects the appropriate charging process. Each of the four channels charges at up to 0.5A, allowing you to charge one to four R6 / AA or R03 / AAA batteries at the same time.
The charger supports 1.5V rechargeable Li-ion and 1.2V NiMH AA/AAA batteries, while LED indicators clearly show standby, charging, charged status or an error. Power is supplied through a USB-C connection with a 5V / 2A source.
Before ordering: the L4 is designed only for rechargeable 1.5V Li-ion and 1.2V NiMH AA/AAA batteries. Do not use it for alkaline or other primary batteries, or for 3.2V, 3.6V and 3.7V Li-ion cells.
One charging station for common AA and AAA rechargeable batteries
The XTAR L4 simplifies charging at home, at work or while travelling when you use a mixture of modern 1.5V Li-ion and classic 1.2V NiMH AA/AAA rechargeable batteries.
- Four independent channels let you insert one, two, three or four compatible batteries without waiting for every slot to be filled.
- Mixed Li-ion and NiMH charging is practical when you use different AA or AAA rechargeable batteries.
- Automatic chemistry detection selects the appropriate charging strategy for the supported battery.
- LED status overview immediately shows whether a battery is waiting, charging, full or needs checking.
- Open housing design helps with battery removal and heat dissipation during operation.
Place each battery in its own slot and charge only what you need
With four independent channels, you do not need to wait until you have a complete set of batteries. Insert only the AA or AAA batteries you need to recharge, including a mix of supported 1.5V Li-ion and 1.2V NiMH cells.
After connection to USB-C power, the charger detects the battery type and starts the appropriate charging process. For full four-channel performance, use a quality 5V / 2A power supply; with a weaker source, charging current may be reduced.
- Insert only clean, undamaged and rechargeable AA or AAA batteries.
- Check the LED indicator for each occupied slot.
- When the LED changes to green, the charging process is complete.
Charging time depends on chemistry, capacity and the battery's initial state. XTAR specifies approximately 2.9 hours for four of its 1.5V 4150mWh AA batteries and approximately 6 hours for four 1.2V 2500mAh AA NiMH batteries.
The right choice for 1.5V Li-ion and 1.2V NiMH AA/AAA batteries
This is not a universal charger for every cylindrical battery. Its key advantage is carefully matched support for the two most common AA/AAA rechargeable battery types.
- Supported: rechargeable 1.5V Li-ion AA/AAA batteries compatible with this charger type.
- Supported: standard rechargeable 1.2V NiMH AA/AAA batteries.
- Not supported: alkaline and other primary batteries, disposable batteries, and 3.2V, 3.6V and 3.7V Li-ion cells.
A 1.5V Li-ion battery is not the same product as a regular 3.7V Li-ion battery. Before purchase, check the voltage marking, chemistry, size and the battery manufacturer's instructions.
Automatic charging programs for different battery chemistries
For supported 1.5V Li-ion batteries, XTAR uses a three-stage TC-CC-CV process to manage initial activation, constant current and charging completion. For 1.2V NiMH batteries, it uses its own control technology for more precise full-charge detection.
This distinction matters because Li-ion and NiMH batteries do not charge in the same way. The charger therefore does not require manual program selection before each insertion, but choosing the correct battery type remains the user's responsibility.
USB-C power with no wall adapter included
The L4 is powered through a 5V / 2A USB-C input. A USB-A to USB-C cable is included, so it can be connected to a suitable USB power adapter, power bank or other stable power source with sufficient current.
- For the best result, use a USB power adapter with 5V / 2A output.
- Connect the cable to the charger's USB-C input.
- A USB wall power adapter is not included in the package.
An unsuitable or weak USB source can extend charging time. Do not use damaged cables or unstable power sources.
Protection features and detection of unsuitable batteries
- Reverse-polarity protection helps prevent an error when a battery is inserted incorrectly.
- Short-circuit, overload, over-voltage and over-charge protection further support safer charging.
- Primary and unsuitable battery detection signals that an inserted cell is not designed for charging.
- An attempt to activate deeply discharged batteries may help with some supported 0V cells, but it cannot repair a permanently damaged battery.
Never attempt to charge a disposable battery. Safely remove a severely or deeply damaged battery from use and do not insert it into the charger again.
Compact size for home, travel and field equipment
At only 76 × 76.5 × 27.6mm and 51g, the XTAR L4 is easy to store alongside photographic equipment, flashlights, toys, meters or other AA/AAA-powered devices.
Four slots make it practical to charge a set of batteries, while the open housing makes them easier to grip and remove after charging.
